Established May 5th, 1989, the Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization created for the purpose of furthering the enjoyment of amateur astronomy. SAAA membership is open to the public and consists of enthusiasts from West Michigan.
SAAA operates the Hemlock Crossing Public Observatory (HCPO) in West Olive. The observatory has a 15-foot dome containing a 16-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope for visual or photographic observing. All club members can use the observatory, with assistance from experienced members.
The observatory is open to the general public on Friday evenings, weather permitting.
SAAA also as a Coronado H-alpha Solar Telescope for observing the Sun at 656.28 nm.
Regular SAAA meetings are held at Macatawa Bay School Planetarium, located at 3700 140th Avenue, Holland, Michigan on the second Thursday of the month (September — May).
